Needs Assessment:  Beyond the “What’ll ya have?” Checklist

If learning and development professionals want to impact their organizations, they can no longer rely on checklists of training wants.  Identifying problems, gaps, work changes and management issues are critical to the implementation of solutions that will make a difference.

This presentation will examine assessment beyond training for training’s sake and review focused sensing as a method that results in gathering information broader in scope and focused on making positive changes in the organization.  Discussion will include the use of focused sensing in conjunction with other assessment methods and the best practices from experiences of participants.

Presenter:      Nancy McGee

Nancy McGee, director of staff learning and development at the Savannah College of Art and Design, has over 25 years of business experience, including a consulting practice in strategic planning and human resource development.  She has worked in various industries, including telecommunications, manufacturing, and financial, as well as with government and non-profit groups. She has presented at numerous conferences, including twice at ASTD National Conference.
